All (we think) you need to know about Liverpool: Apart from letting you know of the freezing conditions which we are subjected to here in Liverpool, we try to offer additional advice from the tons that you will be receiving, both from the department you applied to and the International Student Advisory, bringing small insy gritsy details to you and hope it helps to make your arrival in Liverpool a better and easier one.

First, how much do you really know about Liverpool? The place you are going to spend at least the next 3 years in?

Initially, the first thing that comes to mind will be the ever so famous Liverpool Football Club. Coming to Liverpool means you have a chance to see Anfield for all it's worth. Not forgetting of course, the other clubs we have here, Everton at Goodison Park and Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park.

Apart from the soccer, what else do you need to know?

Liverpool is a fast growing cosmopolitan city in the United Kingdom and it has won the bid to be the European Capital of Culture 2008. Liverpool is a music city and you will find almost all sorts of music genre in the zillions of pubs in Liverpool. In fact, Beatles originated from Liverpool so you can learn all about them right here! Liverpool also boasts of the world famous club, Cream.

And yet, Liverpool is not all about clubs and pubs and play and no work. In Liverpool itself, we have 3 universities...

- Univeristy of Liverpool
- Liverpool John Moores
- Liverpool Hope

The campus of the University of Liverpool is within 5-10mins walking distance from city centre itself. John Moores has its campus scattered around the Liverpool vicinity and Hope is situated somewhat further away from the city centre and nearer to the halls of residence we have in the Sefton area.

The University of Liverpool boasts many famous graduates.

The late President Ong Teng Cheong graduated in 1967 with a MCD (Master of Civic Design). In 1998 he was awarded the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George by the Queen, only the second Singaporean to receive such an honour, the first being former Prime Minister Lee Kwan Yew in 1972. Another big name who graduated from the University is Tung Chee Hwa, who gained a B Eng (Hons) in Marine Engineering, graduating in 1960.
